10 HEADS FOR AN EYE

Operation Apache

This is the story of India’s response to an inhuman act; this story is here to make people aware that anyone who tries to disturb the peace of this nation will pay the price they will never forget. This operation was never made public because of the involvement of the 9th Battalion (Special Forces) unit of the Parachute Regiment, also known as 9 Para SF.

But this story will give you a glimpse of what the Indian Army is capable of when it comes to avenging the country’s loss.

Year 2001

Bakarwal is a peaceful community that spends its life shepherding and herding goats; they are mainly based at Pir Panjal and Himalayan mountain ranges. These people are also known as the Gujjars of Kashmir.

In 2001 the insurgency was at its peak, and so were the counter-insurgency operations of the Indian Army. Intrusions and elimination of intruders became routine for the Army. Attempts after attempts were bitting dust because the Indian Army was too vigilant to be defeated. That’s where Pakistanis did what they do after every defeat they either kill innocents or attack from the back. This time they crossed all the limits. They were continuously intruding in a sector close to LOC and killing the Bakarwals, beheading them and stealing their animals. The Gujjars reached out to the Indian Army for help, and 9 Para SF got the opportunity to avenge the attacks. The CO of 9 himself took charge to teach Pakistanis a good and unforgettable lesson.

Operation Apache was a company-level operation of 9 Para SF that started from a LOC hugging sector. It is believed that the operation was so secret that even the government didn’t know about it. The operation was so special and critical that the CO of the battalion himself was leading the operation. This was one of the major operations to restore peace for the far landers of Kashmir valley.

Lt. A and Lt. N had just cleared the life-soaking probation, and now they are witnessing why the enemy takes Nine Para SF in high regard. Pakistanis recognized Nine by the very first sight. Nine confirm the identity of the enemy, and the massacre begins. This time the mountain rats showed up on their faces and started picking heads one by one, no one was spared, and it was happening just around the corner of the Pakistani brigade.

In between the operation, a 6 feet 4-inch tall Pakistani Pathan soldier tried to fatally attack an operative by stabbing him in the back but was silenced within a second. The operative was injured, and retreat wasn’t a option that night. He was treated right there by medics and the operation stayed on, with the level of blood spilled that night 9 Para SF sent a clear message to the neighbors that there are people on the opposite side of
